ABSTRACT:
This bachelor's thesis aims to emphasize and analyze the influence of bassist Luiz Chaves
and the Zimbo Trio on Brazilian jazz. Through a historical review, the text demonstrates how
the individual trajectory of the musician and the group is mixed with the history of Brazilian
popular music.
After the historical contextualization, I will do a comparative analysis between the original
version of the song Girl from Ipanema by Antonio Carlos Jobim and the Zimbo Trio's version,
which will at first focus on questions of general structure, but will later focus only on the
double bass.
Luiz Chaves was a Brazilian bass player who, together with the Zimbo Trio, contributed to
the language of the instrument in Brazilian Jazz, both artistically and educationally. Their
trajectory, which is intertwined with Brazilian music, is of unparalleled value, and with this
thesis I intend to keep their musical contributions alive for future generations.
