ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of the menstrual cycle on dance performance and to evaluate the possible benefits of including menstrual education in dance education curriculums. Traditionally menstrual education has not had a relevant space in educational contexts as it has historically been a marginated topic surrounded with taboo and shame. This is reinforced by a lack of scientific applied research in medicine and sports, profoundly determined by androcentric structures, leading to a gap in scientific knowledge regarding female health and athletic performance. The research analyses sources from sports science, applies the information to dance performance, and collects general information about the menstrual cycle, hormonal fluctuation and their potential impact on the body and mind. It proposes the inclusion of menstrual education in dancers’ professional education, which would offer an empowering tool for self-knowledge and self-management. Menstrual education sets an environment of open communication, informed decision making and inclusive bias-free information that can create healthier and more positive approaches towards the body in dance education, enhancing performance and overall wellbeing.
