Abstract (eng)
This Master’s Thesis investigates the use of ambiguity as a core concept in contemporary dance composition and video production. Combining theoretical exploration with artistic practice, the research examines how ambiguity can challenge traditional narratives and audience perceptions by fostering multiplicity and open interpretation.
Anchored in the performance AndroBalance (2024) and a dance film, the study explores choreographic strategies such as depersonalization, fragmented movement, and non-linear narratives, alongside cinematic techniques like layering and time manipulation. The research draws from theoretical perspectives by Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Antje Velsinger, and Bill Viola, bridging scholarly insights with practical experimentation. This thesis positions ambiguity as a transformative artistic tool, enriching the complexity of both live performance and visual storytelling.
