ABSTRACT:
The aim of this work was to present the composer Toshio Hosokawa. Through sketches from his life, school time, artistic creation in the climate of Japan and Europe, career achievements and creative means he uses in his compositional work, I tried, in the most effective way, to portray this contemporary artistic individual.
The first part of the paper discusses modernism in general, as well as modernism in music. The reason for this, is that Hosokawa is a composer of modern directions, so it was necessary to refer to the terminology and definition of the concept of modernism in music. The following text presents a short biography of Hosokawa, his influence on modern music, as well as his influence on modern music in Japan through festivals, and historical lines of Japanese music through Traditional Genres and Repertoires.
Considering that in this paper the emphasis is on compositions for accordion, I wrote about works for solo accordion through the prism of Hosokawa's Japanese roots and the search for inspiration. In the end, in order to present his work through a piece, I chose the composition Melodia. Research of the composition with sheet music examples is attached. With closing word, I gave some own thoughts on interpretation of Melodia.
